Almost Perfect

Almost Perfect

This is a really preliminary review on this plane. I haven’t gotten a ton of time with it but I’ve taken a few passes with it just to try things out. I’ve been wanting a No 7 for quite a while and I’ve been on the hunt at every antique store I drive by and on Craigslist. I know you can get one on eBay but I’ve been screwed over in the past there so I’m pretty leery of buying on there. I also just for the heck of it threw this Lie-Nielson on my amazon wish l...

Good Plane for the Money

Good Plane for the Money

I’ve had this plane for about 6 months now so I think that’s enough time using it to make up my mind. I picked this up on a trip to Rockler, I hadn’t planned on buying it but I had been wanting a No 4. Out of the box I justs tried it out on some white oak and with just a couple adjustments it was working great. When I did flatten the sole it took maybe a dozen passes on 220 sandpaper stuck down to my table say. Way less effort than any vintage stanley I’ve ever tuned u...

Great Saw for dovetails

Back to the review at hand though. I started the process of laying out dovetails on 4 drawers and ...

Good Chisel set for the money

I’ve had these chisels for about a month now. I made the decision a while back I wanted to start cutting dovetails by hand and wanted an upgrade over the Irwin chisels I picked up at home depot a few years back. First thing I noticed was how light they are in your hand. They really feel like I’m holding a pencil not a piece of steel. That being said they are tough chisel. Out of the box they were pretty sharp and I was playing around with them and I was paring some end grain white...

Almost a really good clamp

Almost a really good clamp

05-27-2014 01:38 PM by mramseyISU | 4 comments »

I recieved these clamps as part of a Mini Clamp-It set with two of the assembly squares which work really well and 4 of these clamps. I’ve had them for a little over a year and up until recently I really liked them. About a month back I was using them and as I tightened them down I noticed that the threads on the clamp were all bottomed out but they weren’t tight. That was funny I thought and then I noticed that the head was coming off of all of them. The flaw on these clamps is t...
