When things slow down at work, I sometimes get to carve a bit in my office! I keep an extra glove, thumb guard, and a utility knife in my drawer, and it can be very calming to whittle on a ball or ornament or something for a few moments. I did this guy this afternoon, inspired by Don Mertz and Dave Stetson. He’s a little guy, about 2 1/2 inches total. I like the challenge of using using the utility knife to put details in such a small carving, although neither as small or detailed as Don’s stuff. I’m trying to practice the “exagerated realism” that Dave talks about. This one kinda looks like a relative of Jimmy Carters? Made the afternoon pass quickly and I may convert him to a bottle stopper when I get home. Thank’s for looking!

Nice little carving Mike. I wished we could carve at work on our lunch break. We have a no knives policy at work. When the weather is decent I go to a nearby park and try to get some carving time in. Later.

Great carving. ..I always take a glove, knife and thumb guard when I have a wait. I even took it and carved in the hospital bed….lol
