Cherry Mantle Clock

Always wanted to replace the purely average clock on our fireplace mantle. Mechanical movement (8-day windup) is from Klockit. The case design and plans are my own (for better or for worse). Case is solid cherry with lacewood and curly maple inlays. Finish is boiled linseed oil followed by 4 or 5 coats of Formsby’s oil/varnish and a coat of wax. I don’t recommend climb cuts on a router table with small parts (like say, the door to a clock case) – I spent about a week repairing the damage caused by me losing control during one of those cuts.

Thanks -

A credenza/storage cabinet for my sister-in-law. Walnut solids and wanut plywood, walnut burl veneer for the door panels, curly maple for the interior drawer fronts, cherry sides for the drawers. Finished with a coat of BLO and several coats of oil/varnish mix with a final coat of wax. The top center tab is a pull-out shelf that she specifically requested.

Two Christmas present pictures frames for the grandparents – QS red oak with walnut pins and walnut with maple pins. Finished with one coat of BLO and 2 coats of varnish then wax. To make it interesting for me (and to learn something new), I used a half-lap miter joint from a Fine Woodworking article earlier this year. I hope to use this joint on some doors on a china hutch I have a long term commitment to my wife to build.

This was the step in my home office furniture project (see the desk/hutch project) hence the poor picture quality (its about 5 years old so my digital camera at the time was suspect). Its solid cherry frame and shelves with solid maple panels and cherry ply back panels. I based it on a bookcase I saw in a FWW issue a few years ago.

Still one of my favorite projects.
