Measure Your Pasta

Basic of basic projects, but a friend in my office had one and wanted another and couldn’t find one to buy. I agreed to make one as a favor from some scrap I had in my shop.

The one in the middle was the original that the other two were made in 30 minutes today.

I took a scrap piece, marked it out, drilled the holes first on the press with my forstner bits, cut out the rough shape on the bandsaw, sanded the edges on my spindle sander, and resawed down the middle to make a pair. Quick finish sand and abracadabra, one for my friend and one for my wife.

Now we can portion pasta and waste less. Hole one is a single portion, hole two is for two portions, and so on.

Kind of simple, kind of neat, and rather quick.

Normally projects take me weeks to months.. It was a nice change to get one done so fast. What can I say? Instant gratification comes rarely in woodworking.

On the same day I got my new dovetail jig, my youngest daughter said that she couldn’t wash the dishes since she couldn’t reach. So I grabbed a salvage board, planed it down and after the day was over, she had to wash her own dishes. I tried to make it look like an antique.
