This is a first attempt at a project that has been in my mind for a while. I have really been drawn to modern and contemporary designs in the last couple of years and wanted create some wood art. I also wanted a unique topic about wood to post on my website. The background is made with 1/4 mdf with some added material on the edges to make it look like canvas for painting. The Mosaic portion is mostly different thicknesses of white oak, the rest rosewood and a rosewood boarder. I thought it wood be a quick and easy project, but it turned out to more difficult than it looks. I am working on a clock with some of the same elements.

Great Place to Find Free Woodworking Material - Free-Standing Cupboard Built With Free Materials

It was built using free material that I got from a flooring company that was moving and offered some remnants on the internet (for free). It did take a little more work glueing up and surfacing it to get the necessary widths to complete the cupboard, but it was well worth it. More details about the cupboard design and how you can find free woodworking materials in your area are available at my website.

Wood Bowls Made with a Router and a Scrollsaw

This is a Bowl that I made using the Techniques and tools found in a book by Patrick Spielman and Carl Roehl.
You can achieve some cool grain patterns and unique shapes with this method. The rings of wood are cut out of a 3/4 to 1 in piece of wood with a scroll saw, glued and stacked and shaped with various grits of sandpaper on homemade sanding balls. Thats the simplified version. The results are suprising and unique. I posted some additional photos and resources that you can check out.

It is easy to make, perfect for scraps and easy to sell for a nice profit. Hope you like it. (The photo doesn’t do it justice. I have to take a better one) I am just getting my site going and will be adding new projects emphasizing wood and wood art.

The short time I have had to look around surely indicates there are a lot of talented and creative woodworkers and wood artist here. Here is is photo of a Wood Portrait (of my brother-in-law) that I created in Maple. It is done with a scroll saw, painted with thinned acrylic paint, glued up in relief and finished with an airbrush.
