Polar Bear in Texas! G0715P
I assembled my new G0715P table saw today! First Impression:This thing is sweet! The nickle did not move a bit during the test. I used the blade that came with it for my tests before putting on my infinity blade. It cut clean, smooth and left a almost glue ready edge. Conversion to 110:The conversion to 110 was very easy. Of all things, I was the most nervous about this. Changing the circuit breaker was 3 screws, changing the plug was 3 wires and changing the jumpers was 4 screws. VERY ...
I can see it clearly now....
This is actually a review of two products. I had bought a cheap little Pocket Microscope from Lee Valley that was about $10. Took a look at some of my blades and found problems that explained why they weren’t cutting as nicely. It was really fascinating. It has an LED light that is above the object which illuminated the blade clearly. It has a base that easily comes off which is how I use it. I highly recommend it to any one that sharpens his own tools. It is extremely cheap and ...
magic molder is great
now, i’m by no means am I a professional but the results on this thing i think is exceptional. very little sanding if any at all , quick and easy plugs changes, and the ease of use on the table makes it a winner. first off i only have a portable table saw but i tell ya brothers the saw never bogged down at all when i was feeding mahogany, oak or walnut through as i was making some profiles—just pure experimentation by the way. the plugs are not cheap but they work very well̵...
Angle reader/finder
I recently learned how to sharpen my own chisels and plane irons. I was having a hard time when it came to all the different bevels. I bought a cheaper honing jig that works well but it does not measure the angle I am honing. I tried using a protractor and had some success but I still felt I was off. I was looking at Rockler tools online and saw this item was on sale. It had good reviews and the price seemed good so I ordered it. The item arrived ready to use. There were no complicated ...
Hardwood Supplier: Forest Products Associates. Greenfield, MA
NOTE:—Photos and Videos at the Bottom... scroll down!— Where I used to live, there was a so called “incredible” hardwood supplier who had a showroom of almost 800 square feet in which to display oak, cherry, poplar, and walnut. Occasionally, they’d get some additional “special” species. Oh, and EVERYTHING was S2S. Boy was I clueless! When I moved to my current town two years ago, I had a heckuva time locating a hardwood dealer. I searched on...
A step up from my no-name chisels
I know next to nothing about chisels but I’ve been trying to use them a bit. I’ve got some cheap set, probably from Home Depot, with nicks in them that I work around. I’d like to learn how to sharpen them but haven’t started down that path yet. I’ve read mixed reviews about these chisels but something inside me said to get them so I did. They came covered in some kind of oil that I removed with mineral spirits (please tell me if I’ve already ruined th...
DEWALT 12 In. 96T Ultra-Smooth Crosscutting Thin Curf Saw Blade
I was looking around for a new blade for my DW718 SCMS and I was wondering around Lowes and spotted this beaut. So I took it home and put it to the test. The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was when cutting through the wood. It leaves an incredibly smooth and clean cut. It cut perfect miters on hard maple in the first pass. It says it cuts nonferrous metals so I cut some copper tubing and it made a nice smooth cut leaving little tear out but you better wear eye protection. Then ...
Handy little gadget
I picked this up to keep for cabinet installation (scribing filler panels and scribing strips). For less than $20 you get a handy little gadget that stays with me every time I do layout. The arm is articulated like a human finger and very easy to adjust. It seems solid enough for every day cabinet installs for the commercial folks and has all the niceties that the artisan craves in layout tools. Inexpensive, practical, go for it! Bonus points for a built in pencil sharpener!
Add a little color to your wood
I tried Minwax water based wood stain clear tint base for the first time and I am very happy with the resolute. The clear base stain can be tinted to your choice of about 50 colors. I picked “Deep Ocean” http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/wood-stains/water-based-wood-stain.html The water based stains dry quickly so I used a brush to apply it to a small area and wiping the excess off with a rag within 2-3 min. Minwax recommends to use a pre-stain conditioner to keep the grain from rasin...
Very Easy Flutes
I needed to make 8 fluted columns for a small kitchen island I was making and remembered reading about a flute spacing jig here on LJs.The jig was delivered very quickly and I found it to be of the highest quality. It is made of THICK aluminum. What the jig does is help you set the fence on your router table for perfectly spaced flutes every time. You do not need to measure and there is no math involved. The instructions say to practice on a piece of scrap wood. The scrap piece and all 8 columns c...
