To those of you who are too closely following my blerg , you can see substantial progress in my
modifications so far to this $ 15 find from CL . Did some cutting and rearrangement as you can
see . Going to try this walnut top on it . Then I will start finishing the top . First I will start by rubbing in a mixture
of whipped cream and crystallized sugar ,followed by six coats of shellac and some Mother’s Car Wax.
Should be fine , more on that later , as time allows . Some cultural observations on art for now…...1830ish till now.

Victor Castilo’s recipe for Chilean Sea Bass ….follows

OK , I warned you .

A lot of expressions today. It’s incredible what a piece of furniture can bring out.
I like the Chinese censors.

Here is the painting by Bouguereau , painted around 1830 or thereabouts .

Here is a child’s text book illustration from the 1950’s.

And Castillo’s current day offering .

Here are two images that have some interesting correlation in approach . Not similar in intention . Both
may have been considered prurient by their contemporaries ; but cultures change , and critiques are
revised or discarded or invented to accommodate current ’ perameters ’ of thought and taste . cica 1830

.....Very sensual . But these are not children the artist is representing above, these are Gods from Greek
mythology .

..... This illistration…. circa 1930….....notice the welcome mat ? It reads ’ WE LOVE ’ . Notice the
makeup ? Notice the hair pinned ? Notice how the back of the apron could suggest ’ angel wings ’ ?
She seems to be poised to take flight . Funny …. and a wagon handle provides ’ modesty’ just as flowers
do in one of Bouguereau’s . I guess the hungry dog is there for an emotional appeal to appetite ,after all , they are advertising Food. . Funny stuff . This art would border on exploitive if used in advertising today.

Victor Castillo has some rather large angst regarding the church . Being a child of the 60’s
I have been through all the angst of the anti-this and anti-that phenoms and trends . Looking into
the visceral nature of his paintings though is like looking into his dreams .curious . I have caught inadvertent
glimpses of the TV show called ” The Walking Dead ” , now that is much creepier than looking
at some paintings by Victor . All that dissociative violence and ugliness from that show makes
Victor’s work look…..... benign in comparison .

I must say I failed on many of the details. I spotted some of the hints but failed on most. I am going to blame it on the small screen I used last night or maybe I am getting much slower. I miss college days.

Your posts always make me smile and do some thinking, I’m not a student of art but I really love it. I don’t always see what is there but it still makes me think and I believe that is what Art is all about. Thanks for your post

Dick and Jane went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jane fell down and Dick fell down …
Do you really think they went up for water?

I attended a parochial school were we learned about Dick and Jane and ALL the things they did.
Jack and Jill were in an English nursery rhyme and could do no wrong … that’s what I was taught!

After all these years I am finding out the truth!

On the other hand, the was a man from Nantucket …...

The Introduction is 40 Pages Long. The “Subject Matter” is contained within 17 Chapters.
