Part 1: A new beginning

Up to this point I have used an Alaskan Chainsaw Mill to cut all of my wood. It was slow, but fine for what I was doing. As time has progressed I can no longer cut fast enough to keep up with orders. So last fall I decided to get a bandsawmill. BBecause I am a cheapskate and a DIY’r I decided to build my own. I bought the parts for the saw assembly as a unit. Part 2: progress at last.

I started this 2 weeks ago and we were going to attack it right away. Then life happens. My welder and I are both equipment specialists at the main hospital here. One of us alternates problems to work on there causing scheduling conflicts. I wound up with some projects I had to finish and my 83 year old mother slipped on ice and broke her leg. Part 3: nearing the end of the tunnel

The anul welder I have (Kevin) has been a blessing to me. He is very precision with everything. Thus I will have a great machine when he is done. We came into today with the idea that we would saw the first log by tonight. 14 hoursllater and a few missing pieces, tomorrow will be a good time to saw a log. Here’s a few pictures of our day.

Part 4: an hour short of daylight

We finally gave up tonight. So close we could taste it, but not enough daylight to finish and fire it up. So much tedious little stuff to make sure everything is lined up properly. Optimistic though, ordered a bunch of blades today.

Part 5: silence is broken

Probably the most paranoid I have ever been starting an engine. But start it did. Purred like a Kitten. Tracking worked wonderful. Then with breath held, I went through the log. SWEET! I couldn’t take video since I was alone and kind of had my hands full with other things. This was a Beetle Kill Pine log. Look out Andy, I am coming thru!
