DIY-ers: Great site for household item parts! - 5 replies
I needed to repair an LP gas stove top that was not igniting. I found this website that has great photos so you can see what it looks like and they delivered quickly and had affordable shipping. The customer service is also excellent. Keep this one in your file for when you need to fix an appliance that could otherwise cost you a LOT of $$$$....

Stolen Walking Canes - 13 replies
Hello All, My main interest in woodworking is creating custom ergonomic walking canes from various exotic and domestic hardwoods. One of my clients has had three such canes made for himself, as he needs one to be mobile. Unfortunately, he has had all three of them stolen. The most recent theft is Big Tall Cane #130: Lychee, Padauk & Pu...

Powerful flashlight! - 5 replies
FYI: I thought I’d let you know of a really REALLY powerful flashlight that I have purchased that out illuminates the competition. Although I admit I have not tested all of the others, just the info provided has others beat. I was intrigued by an ad by a well known wood tool website (G*) that boasts a 700 lumen flashlight for sale. T...

I’m interested in getting a cordless rotary tool as I’ve got an older corded version and I find that holding the tool stresses my hand/wrist to the point that I am in more pain than comfort. I am hoping that the 10.8 volt version is light enough, yet still has some power and control. If anyone has one of the 8000 series please po...

Verizon's latest marketing ploy - 1 reply
I have come across another marketing ploy: If you use Verizon phone/internet/tv services, check your ”Miscellaneous Charges and Credits” from E-mailBundle for a monthly fee of $14.97. This is a 3rd party fee that is automatically billed and you can cancel this and have Verizon block all 3rd party fees. I have no idea what th...

I thought this would be an interesting subject to start as since we’re having record snowfall (20” last week, another 8”-20” tonight/tomorrow), we are also having trees in our neighborhood snap or fall from the heavy weight of the wet snow. We lost a branch from our 25’ holly tree and have cut the leafy branches of...

FRAUD ALERT: Large Sales Order Paid with Credit Card - 10 replies
This is for all of you who sell your work and may have a website. I previously posted a similar warning http://lumberjocks.com/topics/9795 when I received a large order via e-mail for one of my canes. I thought it odd since I do custom, one-of-a-kind work to have someone request a large order of one style. The short of this story is that t...

This is from a conversation I had with my Dad that I didn’t realize was an alarm at the time, as I didn’t believe the facts were accurate, but he recently re-told this story, confirming them and I thought it should be mentioned. He was at a local electronics store (RS) and asked the sales clerk for some information about a product...

Since there seem to be a good percentage of veterans here I thought this may be of interest. This book is based on true life experiences of the Vietnam war and was written by a good friend of my husband. He was a navigator and electronics specialist in a Mohawk. The book is written in character but there is a lot of referrence that tell that ...

Thankful for my mishaps - 12 replies
Well, my journey of “Thanks” started the week before Thanksgiving. While cleaning up in the kitchen I flicked on and off the garbage disposal to make the water drain out, as there’s usually an air pocket that prevents the water from flowing quickly. If I do this just right it doesn’t back up into the adjoining sink and ...

I just had my Dad call me about this great offer. I read it and was shocked as to how real it looked, but quickly realized it’s a scam, legal or not, it’s still a scam. Wall Tool Storage System & Shaving Mule - 5 replies
This is our version of the wall storage system (aka: French Cleat) that was posted on LJ’s by several members who incorporated it in their workshop (And thanks to Steve Korz for the instructions). With an abundance of odd shaped tools that have been accumulated over the years, this system works extremely well, as you can move the units a...
