I made a new pen with a technique I have not done before. I used 3 layers of colored veneer in the wood blank. The ends of the blank are maple but I can’t remember what the darker wood is. I had it leftover from a different job. The pen is the majestic kit from Penn State Industries and is really easy to work with.

I have been making pens for 5 years now and I have never made a pen for myself. I got an idea to make a pan using colored veneer to make a campaign medal for Iraq and Afghanistan for each deployment I have been on. Each ribbon has about 30 layers of veneer. The gluing took the most time to get it just right. I used a 1” maple dowel to make the ribbon stand out against the background and I think it works. The pen is the majestic pen kit from Pen State Industries.
