« Part 1: What it takes to be a woodworker Part 2 of General series Part 3: Changes »

My name is Michael Griffith. I am a computer programmer by trade, thus I work in IT. I am a creative person and I am a deep thinker.

Why would I do woodworking? I like woodworking because I am able to be creative in a different way than I am at work. It is a big release for me to be able to work in my shop and relax.

I enjoy making projects for other people, things they would probably never think of themselves or I like to think of something they need and make it. That is what happened with my 1st project I did last year. Last year, I overheard one of my sister-in-laws mention that Mom needed a new cuttingboard. I did not say a thing, and I later went home, went out into the shop and started cutting wood. I built it our of a piece of oak and a 2×4. She loved it.

Since then, I have had several people ask me to build various things. Currently, I am working on the Nightstand.

Howdy Michael,

That is the same reason I’m getting into WW. I’m just setting up shop now. My shop is workable, but in it’s infancy.

See ya around the forums!

Believe me when I say my shop is very much in the beginning stages as I can imagine yours is from your description. The first project I built last year, my table was the top of the table saw. I still have no bench, my tools are layed out in groups on boards around one side of the garage. I am building a Nightstand for my father-in-law before I even build the bench. He needs it for his CPap machine ( and my mother-in-law ) is so nice to ask me to build it, I just need to get it done first.

So far, I started over on the top, bought a new table saw since the old one broke on me, and I have the legs glued together, hopefully I keep making a little progress on it.
