Hi all, I am a teacher of philosophy at a local university, but come from decidedly blue collar roots. I grew up smelling sawdust and inherited some of my grandfather's tools--all still in use :-)

I have two children and an understanding wife, but cannot justify spending any significant amount of money on this hobby yet. For this reason I use almost exclusively wood salvaged from the neighboring alleys (I have a small stash of red oak, maple, mahogany and mystery hard wood found this way.) I have also decided to buy all my first shop tools second hand and only at incredible deals scouring craigslist.

My aim is to pick up some basic skills I should have learned in my youth and to make some fun projects. Many of the things I produce are bit unorthodox for this site, but I have learned a lot from the people on here and want to contribute something.

Thanks for looking.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself just about 2 years ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
I apologize for the late welcome but I am currently serving overseas and don’t have a lot of spare time on my hands.

Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…

Have your say...
