Part 1: Deck Project #1--It has begun...

Well…now that the garden bed and children’s area are complete we have begun phase three of our back yard makeover—-the deck behind the garage… The purpose of the deck is to extend the one car garage…adding work space…but also it will cover a drain area because of some back yard flooding we are trying to fix… We are making this as a simple 12×12 deck that will sit on top of cement piers thus making it a flooting deck… The framing is...

Part 2: Napaman's Deck Part 2

Well…day 2 proved to be much slower then we hoped and we only got the 2nd and 3rd rows finished…but then this morning we got off to an earlier start and completed rows 4 and 5…and it is all level… I asked my step-son Isaac (who has been awesome working with me the last two days) to appease me when we finished with the piers…the appeasement was taking some of the deck boards to set up on top and see how they look…and check level with the actual boardsR...

Hello everyone… Sorry for the delay in adding in any entries…the framing and piers took us an extra day and then we just slowed down…then yesterday I finished adding two more piers so we can have one end of the deck bend since we have the extra wood… When I bought the wood I ordered 2”x6”x12’...and when they went to pull my order they only had 16’...so now I have 26 boards of with anywhere from 4-5 feet of redwood…so I will be able t...

Part 4: Finished without finishing!!

Well…today we finished the deck and I am really pleased with how it turned out…I had been worried about the wood…since I have never done anything like this before I was worried that with each passing day the wood was warping in the sun… SO yesterday—-in the hottest part of the day (dumb) we got started with the goal to see if using clamps to bend back the bows wood work…and if that worked then we would set up to go earlier in the day (today and do the re...
