Thank you all for your encouragement on starting up a business. I do kinda have a niche but right now whatever comes along, Im game for! Cant turn down money right now. Like I said before, I work with a lot of re-claimed pine and oak. Not refinishing but new works from 50-120 year old wood. My personal stuff, I do completely by hand but contract work I do with all the tools I have accumulated over the last few years. As far as projects, I have the bassinet Im working on. Got a month so need to put some time in it. Now truth in all fairness, I did use a chainsaw to mill the wood. I got a 6’ x 28” rock oak log and quartered it and cut it up so I got mostly quartersawn with a little rift sawn in there too. Also, this past winter, I found a maple stump about 3’ tall and 20-22” in diameter plus a smaller one about half the size on my way through town (scranton, PA.). I threw it in the back of my crown vic and took it home. Didnt think muc of it till about 2 months ago and I started to cut it up too. I found it was all curly maple!!! So now I have two nice mallet heads, spindle material and more drying in the attic. Its a bit of a pain to dimension with a #40 but slow and steady does it. Ill be putting some pics up soon for you all to see. Hopefully everything comes out nice.
