Wall mount fan for your workshop? - 11 replies
My basement is in the workshop, so it stays pretty cool and comfortable, but it starts to feel muggy and stale because of no moving air. I am looking to add in a wall mount fan to help circulate the air a bit…has anyone added on to their shop that they can recommend?

Shapeoko 3 vs X-Carve? - 22 replies
Thinking of getting a CNC machine, more of a fun new toy that a necessity, so not looking to spend a ton of money. The Shapeoko 3 and X-carve both seem to fit the bill. Does anyone have any strong feelings for or against these 2 machines?

My lumber score of the week! - 4 replies
Picked up ~225 bd ft of cherry. probably 60% 4/4 and the rest split between 6/4 and 8/4. Not all FAS, but pretty dang clean stuff. The boards in the middle pile are all about 12” wide. $2 a bdft which is a steal here in CO! ...Now I have to figure out how to hid it from my wife!

Woodworkers are honest folks? - 20 replies
So most of the woodworkers I chat with seem just like honest good guys (and gals). I was talking about this with a buddy and how I previously had bought a veritas hand plane off of craigslist from the wife of a guy, but paid her way more than she was asking because she had no clue what it was. He said I was definitely the exception, so decided...

Dead magnetic switch? - 6 replies
I have a Grizzly G0453z planer (15” spiral head) that wont start. I get power to switch on the pedestal (buttons light up), so checked, no power to the motor. Pulled the case on the magnetic switch, I have 240V going into the switch (makes sense, the circuit works with other machines), but still nothing happens when I hit the power butto...

Dewalt Scoll Saw Vibration? - 3 replies
Brand new to scroll sawing, just got the Dewalt scroll saw as an early father’s day present. All of the reviews of the saw said it was great and vibration free. So I wasn’t surprised when I turned it 9n and it was solid as a rock. I started slowly going up through the speeds, and right about at speed 4, some vibration was introd...

Sale on SawStop? - 31 replies
Anyone privy to any news of upcoming “sales” on SawStop professional saws? Officially in the market for one and I know on rare occasion they have a sale like they did last year where you got the mobile base free. I do not mind waiting a couple months for this if needed. Thanks in advance!

Prototype for a Dust Collector Fill Monitor - 9 replies
Maybe I’m the only person that worries about this, but I hate when my dust bin overfills and next thing I know I get dust in my filter and have a mess. I looked for commercial versions, but the cheapest I found was from Oneida for close to $150. I decided to pick up an arduino (a microprocessor on a board with inputs/outputs and power bu...

Has anyone used carpet tiles for their workshop? - 16 replies
Working on a basement workshop and would love a bit of cushion under foot and not just hard cement. I was looking at carpet tiles like these: http://rockies.craigslist.org/mat/4666188136.html Does anyone have any experience with these in a workshop? Obviously would make it hard to sweep, but i dont mind vacuuming. Im worried how these w...

Any sparkies here familiar with NEC 2014? - 6 replies
Trying to figure out if i need AFCI breakers in a shop i am adding in the basement. From NEC 2014, they list where they need to go, but “workshop” is different from the explicit call outs, I’m not sure.

Free Standing Lumber Racks? - 12 replies
So moving to a new house in Denver where we have to float our basement walls. The old plan of hanging 500 board feet off the walls just wont work anymore so am looking at freestanding lumber racks. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to get premade ones at a decent price? Looking for something that will hold a few hundred board feet an...

Well, almost free. If you’re in the Denver, CO area you can pick it up or else pay for shipping. I won this on a contest here on LJ’s and finally just watched it this weekend. I would say this is definitely for those who are very new to milling lumber or those looking for an insomnia cure (my review). Hopefully it will be of us...
