Is woodworking for the rich? - 23 replies
I know the value of buying good tools. I do not however consider myself a “tool snob.” I have a unisaw that I bought used. I love it dearly. I have a Jet drum sander that I bought new… LOVE it! My Shop Fox bandsaw is a great tool as well, bought new. I have a delta dust collector, a harbor freight dust collector, and a ...

Can you give me your opinion please? - 15 replies
I have a very large project about 60% finished. It is two very large pieces, and made mostly of plywood with poplar supports and oak trim. Very large and heavy. I have been working on it in my detached garage and now am leaving town for 10-11 days with the project incomplete. The weather will run the gamut while I’m gone… from ...

I need to find a source - 7 replies
I’m building a project where I need 4 carvings (applique) like the design with a torch in the photo. It does not have to be exact, but needs to be large (approx 16-20” wide and 8 – 10” tall (roughly.) 2 to paint white, and 2 to finish in oak. I can’t find them, and when I did, they were EXPENSIVE! Can you grea...

How would you do this? - 21 replies
I want to neatly and efficiently cut out the middle of a board like this. Of course I want the edges to be really clean and smooth unlike my amateurish drawing. I need to do this occasionally, so I need a good way to repeat the process on perhaps slightly different sized boards. Suggestions on how you might do it? I could scroll saw it aft...

I am going for the first time. I’ll be there Friday. If any of you have suggestions on what to see or do, it would be appreciated. Also, any tips for good bargains or freebies? I will be attending with at least one LJ celebrity. He shall remain nameless unless he chooses to be cognito. Looking forward to it!

Bwaaaaaaa! My glue froze! - 13 replies
I only heat my shop when I’m in it. Today I went out to work a little even though it was 9 degrees here overnight, and even colder the last few days when I had the sense to stay in the house. Turned on the furnace and began. When it was time for a glue up, I picked up the Titebond Molding and Trim glue and it was frozen solid. I went...

Where can I get brass screws? - 22 replies
I frequently run short of #5 or 6 brass phillips wood screws for my hinges. I can buy the locally or at HD, but they are expensive. I bought several boxes with square head drive from McFeely’s, and they break off like crazy. That causes real problems. Once they are in and buried, and break… I can’t use that hole for my hing...

I may star in a movie "The Kickback Kid" - 9 replies
I have had way too many close calls lately. I really do try to be careful… and I’ve had table saws for years. I have become a little gun shy lately due to some flying wood. The most recent occurred as I I was cutting a piece of very lightweight 3/16 plywood and a small piece kicked back. My fault I’m sure… but when i...

unisaw blade alignment help - 4 replies
I need help. I bought a Unisaw on Craig’s List. The saw blade on my Unisaw does not align with the table top. It is out over a 32nd front to back. How do you adjust this? I am hoping for a QUICK response. The saw is a Delta 36-953. THANKS!
