Solid Tail Vise
After using this vise for a couple of months, I wanted to post a review of it. First off this is the best vise I have ever used. The operation is smooth and the holding power is excellent. Lie Nielson #51 plane
Completed the new shooting board to go with my new plane from LN using the plans that came with the plane. As soon as the board was finished I started grabbing various pieces of scrap to try out the new plane. The 51 is heavy, the momentum helps move the plane with skewed blade through all types of wood with ease. Included in my testing today were pieces of Mahogany, Hard Maple, QSWO, and pine. Lie-Nielson Large Scraper Plane
I am working on a project which I have incorporated a piece of figured oak. Even with a blade with a fresh and carefully honed edge in my smoothing plane I could not prevent tear out on the board. I ordered the scraping plane specifically for the purpose of preparing the surface of this figured wood. The #112 finish is perfect and the blade thickness is substantial.
