Mad at Grizzly - excuse my bad mood

I’m sorry if my bad mood is contagious but I’m really mad at Grizzly right now.

On April 10th, I’ve ordered a band saw since they are offering the free shipping deal, I’ve selected the G0513X2.

Two days later, after a call to find out the status of my order, I found out that the saw was on back order until “approximately, May 18th”.
I said to myself, ok they build it in China and then they ship it, in order to minimize the cost, they have low prioirty on the shipment, bottom line I bite the bullet and waited…Until today where I found that this item is in back order until…June 12th…perhaps !

The lady at the customer service could not confirm that the saw will show up in June.

So I was ruminating the all day, checked their web site and checked if I could buy a saw that was available. After another call to the customer service, I’ve found out that the two band saws that are available are the ones that does not carry the free shipping promotion.

I’ve asked if they would waive the shipping costs if I would buy a more expensive model (that does not have this promotion right no) but the gentleman on the phone said it was not possible.

So thank you very much Grizzly for your “deal” but I found it useless in my case.

Now I’m back online to find an alternative.

Bottom line : if you plan to buy a grizzly machine right now, don’t make the same mistake I did : call them to find out the availability of the machine instead of ordering online…

EDIT : they delivered the Bandsaw on May 28th, basically 2 weeks before their last commitments. Thanks Grizzly !

Hey Pierre
Laguna does the same thing all the time. But it is aggravating. You might wish you had the Grizzly if you pay the big bucks at Laguna.

I hear this quite often on the various woodworking forums I belong to. If you don’t want this to happen to you, then a call before ordering is a must. And for what it’s worth, the laguna platinum series are also made in China.

There’s little to gain by raising your blood pressure. It’s an aggravation that’s common to the service industry today. You asked the right questions and they were unwilling to accommodate which is quite frankly shocking to me and unfortunately common place to the industry. Shake it off and look around, there are a lot of nice units on the market and you should be able to find one relatively easily. Ken mentioned RIKON and I would second that. I have a 9 year old 12” Craftsman manufactured for them by RIKON and I love it. When I upgrade RIKON will be one of the first places I look. I also believe that Woodcraft has a RIKON sale going on so check that that out and good luck.

Who knows, maybe someone from Grizzly will read this thread and wake up! (don’t hold your breath)

Two more cents. I have a Rikon Deluxe and it works great. The customer service is pretty good also.

Hi Emreald, you are right, I did not gain anything, my two purposes to post this was :
1. Share my frustration, and you’re right that’s childish and by definition, there is nothing to do about it!
2. Hopefully make other fellow lumberjokes aware that grizzly does not mention the status of their stock on their website (and back order really means baaaaaaaaaaaack ordeeeeeeeeeeeeeer.

One more childish comment and I’m done : I’m positive that I can build this band saw, alone, in less than two month, maybe with a blindfold…

Anyway, my fustration being expelled now, I’m going to concentrate on alternatives, thanks guys for your suggestions and fito, I’m sorry to say that apparently the g0513 is also in back order…

sounds like a lousy marketing game… but I don’t have all the facts, so I can’t really say much.

on the other hand – I can say a lot of positive things about the Rikon 14 deluxe bandsaw!

The really long lead times were one of the reasons I didn’t go with Grizzly when I was buying a table saw; I do like my G0555X though.

I’m very happy with my G0513X2. It’s a shame you can’t wait.
