Just wanted to let you in on a jig, I just made for my self. I have a self made bench, but no end vice for clamping, on it for gluing or painting work. Any way I use round dogs and then clamp the work at the end. I was feeling sorry for my self for not having a vice, so I figured I would do the next best thing.
Using my drilled press, I took one of the dogs on its flat side, using a 5/8 bit then tapped it. I got a 5/8 bolt about 6” long screwed it in and put a jig kit knob on the end and now I had a end vice., It works very well and not as big as a end vice. Louis

Louie, it’s been said before, but a picture is worth a ton of words. How about posting a pic of your jig in use? It sounds like an idea I could use, but my feeble mind just can not picture what you are explaining.

Okay, to make sure I’m understanding this; you threaded one of the dogs and put a bolt through it so you can tighten the bolt to clamp something between that dog and one of the other bench dogs on top of the workbench?

I am sorry I am blind, I will have to wait for a freind to take a picture for me. it is pretty simple just drill a hole into the flat area of your roundbench dog, next tap the hole next screw in the bolt into the hole you made with the flat head of the bolt facing the wood you going to grip and then get a knob or a wing nut for the other end which is used to tighten it
