I've been woodworking for about 10 years. Mainly building Shaker and Arts & Crafts style furniture. I've never built anything from someone else's plans. For me, part of the pleasure I get is from creating my work from scratch. I must admit to being a bit of a Normite in the past although I've been making a concerted effort lately to use more hand tools in my projects and I really enjoying that aspect of it. I just moved into a new house in Dec of 06 and I'm now building a detached garage/woodshop. The problem is that when it's finished I won't be able to afford any wood!!

Welcome! I thought I recognized the landscape in your shop construction photos. I’m in the AF and I’ve spent 5 years in MD (Ft. Meade). I always got my lumber at Hardwoods Inc. in Fredrick and once I discovered that joe woodworker lived nearby, I got all of my veneer from him. I sure miss the availability of good hardwoods around there. I was sorely mistaken in assuming it would be that convenient everywhere else. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone…
