For the past 7 years, our workshop has been divided in 2 and shared. My office and its file cabinets share space with our basement workshop. The garage has the rest of our workshop.

The basement workshop consists of our home office area and the woodturning area. This area was originally intended to be office only, but we did not like turning in the garage in the winter.

We are moving the office out of the workshop and into another part of the basement so we have a dedicated basement shop which is 20×20.

Current layout
Garage – table saw, miter saw, 18” bandsaw, dust collector, jointer, planer, drill press, spindle sander wood storage, air compressor.
Basement workshop – lathe x2, belt/disc sander, 2 sharpening systems – dry grinder and tormek, 2 stage dust collector (not piped), small tool storage
Storage – scrollsaw, metal lathe

Proposed layout
Garage – table saw, miter saw, jointer, planer, some wood storage
Basement workshop – 18” bandsaw, dust collector, drill press, spindle sander, some wood storage.
lathe x2, belt/disc sander, 2 sharpening systems – dry grinder and tormek, dust collector piped, scrollsaw, metal lathe, large metal shelving for storing bowl blanks and hand tools, a couple of built and bought cabinets, extra workbench.

Goal is 2 weeks as I have to build some of the cabinets.

-- I have a portable sawmill in the Detroit area
