I just want to thank all the jocks that offered their welcome in response to my newly created profile. I grew up doing a little woodworking in my Dad’s basement hobby shop and then in High School, I started sculpting wood with a chainsaw. There were a couple of local carvers that served as good examples and I learned quite a bit from them. I tried my hand in a few competitions and didn’t do too bad in the amateur class. When I tried moving up to the pro class, I was out of my league. Unfortunately, during my time away at college, I fell away from the craft – mostly due to a lack of opportunities to practice. Anyway, about 15 years later, I’m getting back to the wood. I’ve been working for the past 5 years renovating an old farmhouse and the main interior shell work is nearing completion. I am getting close to starting on all of the new trim work that the house needs, which should serve as good practice as I get back to work in the shop.
I am just starting to get set up in my new shop. I have acquired an older delta radial saw (on long-term loan) and am planning a new tablesaw purchase soon and a router too. Two of my neighbors are pro wood men with real nice equipment that I have access to (12” jointers, planers, shapers, panel sanders, etc…), so for the time being, I am sticking to the basics in my limited space.
Anyway, thanks again. I look forward to listening, learning and contributing as opportunities arise.
