Growing up, I didn't know a damn thing about tools or woodworking. Neither did my parents - they're [retired] scientists. I followed the nerdy tradition and entered medicine. I've always been a creative-aritistic wannabe, and I certainly have always loved working with my hands and building things. So I guess you could say all I needed was exposure...
I got into woodworking after purchasing a home and wanting to DIY repairs and remodeling. A mostly DIY kitchen remodel left my wife and I completely breathless, but also kindled my interest in woodworking. We had the doors and drawer fronts made by a cabinet shop, and to save some money, I decided I would finish them by myself (it came out well, but in hindsight this was a rather big risk!). I started learning all about finishing, bought a HVLP system, and the rest is history.
I'm only 2 years into my woodworking hobby, and am reaching the point where I have a space-limited, but fairly fully-equipped shop to build the kinds of things I want to build. Along the way I have done all sorts of small projects and gifts, but nothing along the lines of the larger furniture pieces I'd like to make for the home. I'm early in my career so I don't have as much time to enjoy the shop as I would like, but I'm happy to know I've got a hobby that will stay with me throughout my life.
I'm very thankful to sites like Lumberjocks where we can all learn from one another and pass on the artistic, creative, and technical knowledge needed to enjoy this wonderful hobby.

Welcome to Lumber Jocks! This is a great place to get – or give – advice about woodworking on the forums and the project posts are a wonderful source of new ideas. I look forward to seeing your projects and posts.
To get the most feedback on your projects, it’s best to only post 1 or 2 at a time. This way you will get feedback over several days and from a wide variety of members.
Please enjoy your membership.

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself a few months ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
