Part 1: Beginning

1931 days ago by littlecope | 3 comments »

The gift is going to be a small wooden sign reading “Debbie’s Place”, in Cursive lettering, on an Oval Back.Gotta begin at the beginning, with lettering! Happily, I have Stencils of Written or Cursive style letters, this time I’m going with the one inch size. I’ve gathered what I can think of that I’ll need, though not likely everything. Ready to begin. Now there’s probably a few who will get a laugh out of doing it this way, but it works as good as an...

Part 2: 2 + 2

1929 days ago by littlecope | 1 comment »

Two hours on Friday, and two hours I managed to squeeze in Sunday afternoon, but the work progresses! Began Sunday by transferring the pattern I fabricated onto the wood I guess most attach the patterns to the wood, to be honest, I’ve never done it that way. When I started doing these, ready access to a simple copying machine was difficult to come by. The patterns were also considered precious to me and I didn’t want to cut them up. Anyway, I’ve continued doing them right on...

Part 3: Cutting out Letters

1926 days ago by littlecope | 0 comments »

Finally got some free time today! Started out by deciding it was a great day to clean up around the Scroll Saw! And not only for the Camera! I’ve been looking at how small the dot is over the i and the apostrophe on this tiny sign I’m making and realized that when they fall out, I’ll never find them unless I police the area a ...

If anybody read this from the beginning, I mentioned that this small sign was going to have an Oval Back. wdkits1 sent me a note inviting me to view his ellipse marking device, and I thank him, and that’s a nice thing, but I’m too lazy to go to that much trouble! Besides, when I was searching for scrap wood to make the lettering I came across theseThey were amongst a bunch of wood scraps that were given to me by Parent’s Neighbors. Finials, I suppose, because there were also...

Part 5: April Showers

1921 days ago by littlecope | 0 comments »

I checked the newly-red lettering this morning, hoping to move this along but it’s still too tacky, even though it’s been two days. If we had some sun around here, I’d put them on the window sill and let Old Sol do his magic, but no luck. April showers….I even have them under my reading lamp, to try to speed up the process, but it looks like it’ll be ready when it’s ready. So, I turned my attention to the backer board, getting it ready for whenever these dry...

Part 6: Wrapping Up....

1918 days ago by littlecope | 3 comments »

Well, I got to help with the move itself which took me out of town for a day, and I didn’t have to stare at the still-drying letters all day! :-) When I got back, they were finally dry enough. So, after a good nap yesterday, to rest these old bones, I started by removing the tape and positioning the words on the sign. There’s still a little stick-um left from the tape on the bottom, and that helps after eyeballing them into place. They don’t slip and slide around. Since the w...
