After procrastanating almost all month, I finally decided to make an entry for the serving tray contest. I started it Sunday morning and just finished it this morning. I am really proud of it because it pushed my limits to new heights (and it tested my ability to make a jig on the fly). The base is Curly Cherry, sides are Maple with Walnut accents.

The size is 22 inches long by 15 inches wide.

Thanks for looking.

Both are Maple and Walnut like the others. I wanted some good pictures, better than I can take, so I call a buddy who is a professional photographer. I offered a cutting board outa the next batch I make.

They were hand planed and finished with butcher block finish.

Mother's Day presents- My first pretty things

These are a couple of cutting boards that I made for my Mom and LOML. LOML designed the trivet. All 3 are Maple and Walnut.

Cut, Clamped and glued, Hand planed, power sanded, and finished with Watco Butcher Block finish.

Mom and LOML both refuse to use them, they say that they are to pretty to mess up using them.

I really like the grain pattern of the maple (quilted?).

Enjoy

Miter Saw Bench

Cleaned up garage and found that I actually had an open wall and I figured that needed to be remidied. So I dug around and built this bench out of 2×4 and 1/2 in OSB. I couldn’t figure out how to make the drop area so I just built 2 workbenches and then put 2 runners in connecting the 2 benchs. (Don’t tell Barbie but I was off by 1/8 inch and used a piece of her Maple scraps as a shim).

It’s not real pretty but is really functional and Yes Virginia, it’s level across all 3 surfaces.

The before of my next project.....a refinish/refurb

This is a trunk that has been in my wife’s family for a long time, don’t know exactly how long. It has leather handles that are not condusive for carrying. It appears to be made out pine or some similar wood. My plan is to strip and then refinish, replace hardware, and install a new system of handles to make it easier to move. Any help, suggestions, comments or complaints are welcome. I will try to keep yall up on the progress.

And yes, I will attempt to keep the mistakes to a minium.

THE LONG AWAITED FIRST PROJECT.....

Well, here it is, the long awaited first project. A simple panty/storage area. I had problems with not having enough wood, then I got the wrong size screws, and I haven’t told yall about when I started assembly.

Wellllllll…...I finnaly got the wood I needed (or so I thought), the screws I needed, and began assembly. I put together the shelfs, and attached them to the legs. WELL, a moment of clarity hit me and I figured that I had better see if I can get this monster into the hole before I get to far into it and low and behold, it didn’t fit. SOOOOOOO, now I had to disassemble the thing and then put it into the hole and assemble it there. I went to find the level so I could make sure it was level, and guess what, it was nowhere to be found. So I eye-balled it and got it done. All three shelfs frames installed and the wife (pink handcuff girl) got home from work and reminded of where I left it, in our bedroom while hanging pictures….my bad. I went and checked the level of the shelf and it was dead on from my eye-balling…..OH I’M GOOD…yea right, luck is more like it.

A few days later, I got the plywood out of the shed and started to cut to fit when I realized that I only had enough plywood for 2 full shelfs…..hmmmmmm. I laid the lower shelf in and realized that I had measured for 3/4in plywood and I had 1/2in….so now I have an uneven base…grrrrr. My wife thinks its great but I am disappointed, I made way to many mistakes….lack of planning, not checking tools, not checking materials…..oh well.
