I am a retired Pipefitter. I worked for US Steel Corp. for 28 & 1/2 years there as one & then 10 years as a outside Pipefitter contractor. In that job you get used to making honey out of poop. Meaning, you don't always get what you need to do the job so you have to improvise, a lot.
You also get to touch a lot of the trades. Meaning, during the preformance of your job you get to work in other trades to complete the work.
Since I was about 5 years old I helped my Dad working on projects around the house. My Mom & Dad's home. It was during that time I started working with wood. Now I am 61 years old, and a lot of projects made from wood and other materials have past through my calloused hands. I really enjoy working with wood.
I guess that is why I have a stockpile of 2400 board feet of hardwood in my backyard, ricked & tarped to keep out the weather. I get it for free, so most of my projects are made out of it.
Lately I haven't been building anything because I have been repairing & refinishing furniture that I pick up from my nightime curbside pickups in my truck.
People are throwing out very good furniture & buying 'new' furniture that comes in a box, and that is made out of sawdust, glue & vinyl veneer. Go figure. They are throwing away hardwood furniture with dovetails & are buying junk.

I can’t wait to get back into my workshop, everyone. It’s been a long time that I haven’t been in it. I’ve been sick with pneumonia for 2 1/2 weeks now & my doctors tells me, that it might be another 2 weeks. I am going slowly nuts. I’m only working on the computer, watching the boob tube & watching my toenails grow. Talk about being bored, bored & BORED!!
