In this episode I put 2 coats of polyurathane on all the parts. Then I glue up the top part of the chest and attached 2 hinges on the back and a latch on the front of the chest.

Interesting choice of joinery, a simple butt joint. Fastening with just glue was a surprise to me. Do you glue a lot of butt joints end grain to face grain in this manner, and have you experienced joint failure due to the end grain sucking up the glue? I’ve done this in the past but experienced joint failure without the use of biscuits.
I was also wondering if you ever use jigs to aid you in assembling multiple pieces. It looked like the top was a bear without one. The chest looked good did you use butt hinges in the back? Hope my inquisitive nature has not offended you in my questions. I did like your choice of stain, nice color. Well gotta go check out your episode of lay out tools. Keep up the good work.

Yea I dont build boxes a lot but I have never had a problem with butt joints. The way I glued up the top was I took a clamp and clamped down the top strips. Then I braced another clamp on the first clamp so that I could glue everything up straight. I have to take some more pictures but I will send you a link to the project page when I post it.
