So off we go onto a new adventure. One of which I have not embarked upon. I’ve done hundreds of raised panel doors in my day, so the actual process is a cake walk. However, this being a star has already shown some complications. Now if you think this is going to be just a simple raised panel “star” door, well, I guess you don’t know me. LOL. Part 2: Mucho progress!!

I wasn’t supposed to work on this today because I’m supposed to work on a fence for the property I’m renting. I have a huge pile of fence material that the landlord and I just picked up yesterday. But I started this project this morning, blogged it around lunch time thinking I was done for the day, and then ended up back out there. This project has actually been kinda fun. Part 3: Chip carving #1

So the chip carving has begun. I thought I would share a little bit of how to with you. I don’t have my entire pattern figured out, but I did choose this pattern for each of the points. So lets get started. You can purchase chip carving knives if you feel it is necessary, but I just use an old timer I’ve had since High School. It has 2 blades. Part 4: the panels

I finally found some time to make a little progress on my star door. I did a bit more chip carving on the star itself and had the frame pieces cut. Tonight I made the panels around the star. I decide to plane up some redwood for contrast, and made them 1/2” thick. This makes them sit down in the frame and gives the star more depth. Instead of routing a full raised panel on them I opted for a rabbet and a cove. I used a core box bit to make the cove. So the star has a large cove a...
