When sharpening the blade place a towel or moving blanket on the floor under your feet, just because $hit happens. Otherwise you’ll end up with a chipped corner after you just spent all your time polishing the face. Then you’ll have to resist throwing it across the shop, and that can be very difficult after a long crappy day. HTH

Sounds like the voice of recent experience! You might even want to go a step further and buy a horse stall mat from your local farm store and use that to stand on and protect dropped tools from hitting the floor too hard. They aren’t terribly expensive ($50 or so), they cover a good amount of space, and they make standing much more comfortable. It’s what I’ll be using in my shop until I can afford to put down some engineered flooring.
