Here are some of the results. I try to vary the woods for contrast and design.

Mission style dresser for wedding gift

Built this as a wedding gift for my daughter. Unfortunately they were married for over a year by the time I finished it! Most of the construction including drawers is red oak. Inside carcase is birch ply. Finish is poly/linseed/turp applied in multiple coats with final rub out with steel wool and then waxed.

Took 135 hours but took me a long time between other projects and interruptions (like working for a living!)

wooden box

This is my second box ever. It started out as a reject square sided box as I wasn’t happy with some of the joinery. I decided to experiment with removing some of the sides in a freeform shape and then made a fitted lid to match the contour. I think it came out well and intend to experiment with this idea some more. Woods are oak for the lid and box bottom, walnut for the sides and a little strip of cherry on the very bottom. Dimensions are approx. 4” long x 1.5 inches high x 2.5” deep.

Jewelry box for my daughter

I built this box for my daughter as a college graduation gift. We lost her mother to cancer almost seven years ago and I gave her our wedding rings with a nice white gold necklace. I thought it would be nice to make a box for it also. She seemed very touched and it was very meaningful

I made this piece for my wife. I made some similar ones for our daughters that I wish I had also photographed. They are really just scraps of wood glued together with some patience, belt and drum and hand sanding. They are pretty fun as the shapes and look just evolve as I go. This particular piece has oak, walnut and poplar in it. The round beads were purchased.

Amy wedding present dresser

I built this dresser as a wedding gift for my daughter and son-in-law. They had been married about 6 months by the time they got it, but seemed to feel it was worth the wait. Quite a bit of the material was salvaged from an old house they tore down where I work and I claimed a lot of old oak 4” floor molding for free the day before the wreckers came. So I had to do a lot of sort, re-gluing and planing to work around all the nail holes and such.
