Starbuck's Entertainment center

Here’s an entertainment center I’ve just finished for a customer that brought me a top he bought off Ebay from a closed Starbuck’s Coffe shop. It’s black walnut and maple construction. The finish is my first attempt using David Marks favorite…wipe on poly/tung oil/linseed oil blend. I think it work great!

So what’s that thing on top? Read my lumberjocks blog to find out…I’ve documented the project there!

Thanks for looking everyone!

Gotta Love "Woodworks"

Hey everyone!

I finished a project a little while back and thought I would share! I’m afraid I can’t take all the credit for the design though…

I’ve learned a lot about attention to detail from watching the great David Marks on DIY’s “Woodworks”, and I’ve been meaning to find the time to build one of the projects from the show. Well, I picked one! I chose the spice rack project, but with my own little changes. While David built with maple and purpleheart (a beautiful combination, by the way), I went with my current favorite…maple and black walnut. I absolutely love the contrast created with the two woods. I also shrunk the dimensions a bit, resulting in only two small drawers rather than the original three. And the slats on the back were another change.

In true David Marks tradition, I finished the spice rack with a hand-rubbed tung oil finish. It always been one of his favorite, and is quickly becoming one of mine as well.

After finally finsihing the project, It was time to decide if this was a “for sale” piece, or a “for the house” piece. The answer came to me when my parents stopped for a visit and my mom fell in love with the spice rack. And who am I to say no to my mom? Besides, it matches her kitchen perfectly!

I have every intention of trying my hand at another David Marks design very soon! The man is a true artist and will always be an inspriation to me. If you’ve never been to his website, I would reccomend it very highly! Here’s the address:

"In-the-white" mission end table

This is a new project I completed recently. My customer wanted to do the finishing. I think the standard quartesawn white oak would have looked nicer, but we were matching design to an existing headboard done in red oak. It is freshly delivered and remains unfinished, but as soon as that last step is completed I will get a pic and load it up!

The "e" table and a love for pie!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments and responses to “Mr. Knapps’ Gun Cabinet” that I posted earlier. The response was so encouraging, I thought I’d post another favorite of mine.

This was a table I was commisioned to build for a friend (hello “e”) for her kitchen. It has a painted poplar base with a somewhat involved red oak top. Project payment included the best apple pie I’ve had yet made on the newly completed table.

How could anyone ever turn down apple pie?!

Mr. Knapp's Gun Cabinet

Hi everyone. I’m happy to have found a place to share with some other woodworker’s, and I’d like to thank Mark Decou for the invite. I’m just getting into the swing of things in my shop, but I do have a few projects I’ve completed.

One of my first paying jobs was this gun cabinet. Made of Red Oak, the only requirement given to me was to fit as many guns across the given width as possible. The result was to set the guns on a curve, giving me room for one more gun, 9 in total. As with every piece I make, there were plenty of things in the end I might have done differently. But I’m pretty happy my work.

Probably could have done a bit better at estimating the price though…
