no previous part Part 1 of Grizzly Here I come!!! series Part 2: Dare I say it? »

Well kids, It’s been a long time in the making but this weekend I’m off to the Grizzly Woodworking Store in Muncy, PA. I’ve been there once before, and I gotta tell you if you’ve never been, it’s a real treat! The store is huge and loaded down with tools. My father-in law (Grampa Knapp) is going, of course. He wouldn’t miss it, and I’m very glad to have something like this I can share with him.

And somewhere in all that loveliness is a jointer with my name on it!

Yep, I’m finally replacing the Delta Benchtop 6” jointer (I know…I cry a little just saying it…) with a larger one. The current candidates are a G0586 8” 2HP jointer, a G0593 8” spiral cutterhead, and every other jointer Grizzly makes thats in my budget. That really narrows things down, huh?

Anyway, I’ll keep everyone informed as things unfold. If anyone is in the Girard, PA area on Sunday, I’ll need some help getting the thing off the truck! :)

And if you’re in the Muncy, PA area on Saturday, stop in and tour the store with me. I’ll be the one with the drool hanging from my bottom lip!

Have a great time Kevin!

I have quite a few of their machines too. No complaints.

This months issue of Wood Magazine had some jointer reviews including a couple from Grizzly. Their tests showed that the straight knives worked better and smoother than either the spiral knife or spiral insert type cutterheads. It’ll save some money too.

Drool hanging from your lip. How will we pick you out from the other 1000 people there with drool on their lips?

How can anyone not walk through that store without a BIG smile on their face? I was there in December for the first time and I was suffering from perma-grin. Remember the store is closed Sunday’s and have a ball!

Have fun!

I’m still planning to fly there (Williamsport Airport) on Saturday. I’ll look for you in the jointer section.

I haven’t been there, so I’ll also need a bucket. <g>

I’ve had a few small issues, but nothing major. A loose set screw on the belt pulley, the outfeed table out of co-planar, cheap knives. I got mine on sale, and right after the sale was over, they put the carbide cutter head on sale, so I got that and installed it. Right now, it’s a workhorse! I bet this think will last forever! And the idea of never having to replace, and set knives is a dream! When you get yours, take the set screw out, and put some thead locker on the threads, then re install it. You shouldn’t experience any issues with the keyway coming out if the set screw backs out!
Did you know that Grizzly is offering free shipping right now?

I’ve got the 8” spiral head jointer and a 20” spiral head planer. I love them both.

Good luck. Is this the tent sale weekend?
