I’m visiting family in Chicago this weekend and found out that there is this hand tool event going on. Here are some details from the website:
April 11 – April 12, 2008
Furniture Making Workshops
1774 W. Lunt Avenue- Chicago, IL
(J. Miller Handcrafted Furniture)
Hours: Friday, 4/11 noon-6pm
and Saturday 4/12 10am-5pm
Guest Demonstrators include: Christopher Schwarz, John Economaki, Jeff Miller and
Thomas Lie-Nielsen.
It happens to be about five minutes from my sister’s condo, so I’m planning to attend on Friday.
Have any of you been to one of these? How was it?

I went to one in Oakland and had a great time, bunch of great demos and a free lunch :) Definitely worth the trip.

Just make sure you have plenty of room on your credit card. I am sure there are going to be some toys there that you just can’t live without.

Sounds like a good time, Damien. I’m looking forward to it. Did you get to demo any tools?
Scott, I know I’m going to be sorely tempted to buy some tools. I’ve been thinking about getting a shoulder plane. Although I’m leaning towards the veritas medium, it will be great to try out lie-nielsen’s and also bridge city’s if John Economaki brings one. I know I can’t afford the bridge city, but it just looks amazing!

I have the Veritas medium, though should have opted for the large as the first one – even for little work – lots of control. The Veritas are very comfortable in hand…
Enjoy your time on Friday!
