While not new to the web and certainly not new to turning lumber into sawdust, I only found this site a few weeks ago and decided to join.

Wow over a dozen “welcome” messages in only a day or two…. I’m impressed with the camraderie here to say the least.

Hopefully, I’ll become a useful addition to the site. There’s certainly plenty I can learn from the rest of you fine folks.

A little about me.. I’m 55 yrs old, just recently out of work along with the rest of the middle management where I had been happily employed for many years… new “big boss” who wanted to bring his “own team” in… yada yada yada… in any event I was looking for a job when I found that one… I’ll find another.

Married to a wonderful hard working southern belle (she’s pretty too!) I have 5 kids and 5 grandkids.

I’m a mechanical engineer by trade but have worked most of my life either running fabrication shops or industrial maintenance depts. I’ve got a machine shop and a woodshop detached from the house (in the same garage…. wood and oil don’t mix don’t ya know!)

Most of my woodworking is centered around home improvement projects, cabinets, furniture etc for my own home and those of our children. I get an occaisional “commission” to build something or other for a friend or neighbor…

I’ve also had the good fortune to build out a couple of professional office spaces for a law firm here in Mobile…. I really got a ton of pleasure from that job. The client was pleased as punch and the money wasn’t bad either. That firm has since referred some other business my way which will help somewhat with the bills until I find suitable employment.

Doing high-end offices could be suitable employment, bubba. I’m sure there is a bevy of barristers in your neck of the woods. Welcome to LJs! I’m sure you’ll be glad you joined. I’m not much of joiner and this place is self-regulating with that regard. As in, you are engaged here as much as you want to be. Most of us enjoy the variety of approaches, techniques, levels of experience the membership has to offer, so come on in, the water’s fine.

Just remember, you can pee in the pool here but please, please, please, NOT from the diving board!
