Building a Spherical Chess Set #5: Turning the chess pieces and completion

It took a little while to decide on a design for the chess pieces. I had to go through 2 books on turning chess pieces before coming up with something. After turning the maple 1/2 of a set I decided to see how well they would hold on the globe. I had made them too tall and the king and queen kept tipping off.Back to the drawing board and make them shorter. I found that when turning a large number of pieces on the spindle that I could not do the finish cut (kept breaking the spindle and it never broke between pieces) so I would rough them out then cut off and chuck up individually and turn to final dimensions and finish.
