no previous part Part 1 of Wall Display Case series Part 2: Planing/Jointing »

Well, I actually started this project while I was planing and jointing the wood for the curio shelf I recently finished. I figured I would prep the wood all at once. This project is going to be a display case for hot wheel cars that are still in their packages. It will roughly be 47” wide, 30” high, and 6” deep. There will be a shelf on the bottom where a few boxed cars can be displayed. There will be 2 framed glass doors in the front and it will hang on the wall using a french cleat sytem. I have a little black book that I like to sketch projects up in before starting them. I’m always making changes in my book as they arise.

My next step is to sand the wood filler where the brad nails are and cut the shelf to size, I also need to place a piece in front for a stop for the doors.

Is this more pallet wood? What are you going to finish it with? Looks good John.

I work at a machine shop in Chandler and when our material comes in they usually have slats of wood around them to protect them from the metal band that is used to hold the material down. The slats average about 3/4” x 6” x 48”. So I’ll go dumpster diving ever so often and grab what I can. It’s mainly pine. When the project is done I’ll paint it gloss black.
