The finished one is for my nephew for Christmas and the other is for my wife. Why your wife you ask? She is a children therapist and she uses toys as part of the Childs therapy.

Portable router table

Seeing that I have a need for a router table and don’t have the room. I made the portable table from Wood Magazine, issue 187. Very easy to build and it works very well for as basic as it is. Its made from 3/4 MDF and finished with some poly. I used my old workmate as a stand. Just pull the center board out for motor clearance and clamp it down.

Well these tables are finally done. The finish I decided on was a golden pine Gel from General Finishes with the pre-stain, four coats Arm-R-seal. I really liked that Arm-R-seal. Like I said before, the tables were built for my daughter. She came home from school yesterday and went up to here room and screamed. I guess she was surprised. These tables are the first big projects that I have done. I have learned many things that will help with later projects. Big thanks for all the help passed to me along the way.

I made the night stand you see out of soft maple for my daughter. This is the first time building something like this. I was really hesitant in building this because I thought it was way too advanced for my level. But it turned out better that expected. I have to make another one for the other side of the bed. Mortise and tenon joints for the sides, back and front rails. Now I need to figure out what finish to use. Any suggestions would be helpful. I also have put a light stain to match her maple bed.

I made a planer sled to plane some wood I did not want to rip down to fit on my 6” jointer. It’s made from 3/4 MDF as a base with some side and end runners. I use shims to keep the board stable. I use hot glue to keep everything secure. Just take light passes to establish a flat surface then you can remove it from the sled and run the other side through the planer.

I put a couple push blocks on it. It makes it a bit easier and safer to push through the table saw. It has a runner that rides in the miter slot on the right side of the blade.
