My workshop currently consists of one half of a “two car” garage. The new homes of today say they have “two car” garages, but there more like one and a half. I also get to use all of the driveway space I need if it’s a nice day outside. Setting up saw horses and temporary bench tops outside can be a good way to enjoy the nice weather, but it isn’t much fun if you have to go somewhere in a hurry or bad weather rolls in from out of nowhere! I currently do not have any pictures of my less than fabulous “workshop”, but I will try to get things in order and take a few pictures to post.
As for the tools that are not consistently used, I store those in the storage shed that I built in January of 2006. The shed is 8 feet by 12 feet by 10 feet high. I built it all from my own AutoCAD design. My only limitations were my budget and the homeowners association restrictions, which meant I had to build the shed to match our house. (i.e. same roof shingles, same colors, etc.). I wanted to build the shed bigger, but the homeowners association said I couldn’t. (see pictures)

- Porter Cable pancake air compressor w/ finish nailer, brad nailer, and stapler
- Delta DP300L 12” Drill Press w/Laser
- An assortment of hand tools
- Contractor’s Table Saw (Considering the BOSCH saw with the gravity assisted lift)
- Jointer
- Planer
- Band Saw

Tom(mot): The hand tools are nothing fancy. Mostly mechanic’s tools (wreches, screwdrivers, etc.) because I used to be a “gear-head”. I’ve lost my interest in that world and now I’m trying to pursue a new hobby in woodworking. Anyhow, sorry if this causes any disappointment.

It is not disappointing at all. Everyone starts somewhere. When I first started I shared a friends shop. We got together to work every couple months. I bought a few hand tools for my own very small shop and that was it until I moved.
You probably know this but there is a Woodcraft store in San Antonio. It is on 281 south of 1604. They have some nice tools there and are quite helpful. If you are interested in hand tool classes there is a place I found at Elm Mott, just north of Waco, that offers a variety of woodworking seminars. One of the instructors has entered projects in the TX Woodworkers Show that is held in Kerrville. This past year he had a first place project.
