A friend gave me a deli table from a closed down grocery store. Stainless steel frame, great maple butcher block top in 4 parts. The only problem with it was that it sat out in the weather for a while and the wood swelled. I’ve had it for over a year now and I’m trying to turn it into a woodworking workbench. I’ve been working on planing one section so it doesn’t hang over the frame.
My biggest victory so far is my hand plane. After reading a bunch on refurbishing hand planes I have been able to fix up the cheapo plane I bought at Harbor Freight (made in India). Now I know how a plane is supposed to work, although if someone experienced used it they would have a differing opinion.
I want to put some bench dogs in but I’m afraid of drilling in the wrong place. I bought a small vise that will go on the front.
One of the cool features of the bench is that the middle sections lift out to reveal a tub/sink type area.
I’ll try up get some pictures up soon.
