Hello Tooold,
Let me welcome you to LJs. I hope that you will find this to be an interesting and exciting part of your woodworking journey.

Hello everyone -
Thanks for the great welcome – this is clearly different from the normal Internet forum!
Well, you’ll probably be disappointed, but I’m a rank beginner. I’ve done some small jobs in the past, but for a variety of reasons have decided to build a simple MDF kitchen in an apartment in a barn we’re renovating in SW France. This is by way of practice for the renovation of the house which will have a lot of stuff needing to be built.
I’ve always wanted to do this, just never had a compelling reason to spend the time (and money – ouch!) on tools and yet another learning curve, but I love working with wood (and playing it – I’m a guitar player). The language and stylistic gulf between what we want and what the local artisans down here want to do is huge, so here goes.
I’ll spend some time reading before posting so as not task questions that have been asked a zillion times before. I have to buy the minimum I need and the best I can afford to do the kitchen and move on from there.
You can see some photos of the barn in progress at my website: http://www.mylescochran.com/studiofrance.htm
Thanks again for the welcome!
Myles

Welcome Myles. You have found the right place for woodworking. A great group of people willing to help. That barn project is coming along real nice. Looking forward to see the end result and your woodworking projects and comments. You will see that there are a lot of ‘rank beginner’s’ here. The main thing is your ‘love of working with wood’.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
