LumberJocks

My Name is Todd, and I am a LumberJock Junkie...

Is There Help?

Well, I have been with LumberJocks for a solid week and I am just thoroughly addicted. I often check in during the day when I take a break from the shop, and I can’t wait to get home from the jobsite to check in on the postings and comments.

“Do the clients have a computer I can get on? Do they have wireless available? Focus Todd! Focus!”

More to Come

I have plenty to share, and just as important – to learn. I have great experience, but sharing challenges what I think I know, and I am already getting a different angle and perspective on many things. Thanks guys.

Flogging Martin!

No not really, what malice could be held toward Martin for all his hard work. He has made great improvements that have directly affected me. Being self-employed has given me a great appreciation for other’s talents. Thanks Martin, you’re my hero. (Cheering, banners waving, confetti flying.)

It’s Educational

I am becoming not just a better woodworker, but a computer savvy wizard (yeah right). Seriously, I am challenged to figure things out on the computer and it really is helping me. Thanks to the guys that have given tech support, I just need a little time to sit down and apply it.

No Workie, No Eatie

I need to get out to the shop and start working on my current project. I am working on a piece for a “green” building exhibit to be shown in the Yellowstone Art Museum here in Billings, a very prestigious venue for my work. As I understand it will be shown in Missoula? I’m not sure. Anyway, the table is made of environmentally sustainable and friendly products. I am taking pix as I go so I plan on posting them. I intend to figure out how to get the photos into the blog for real, no cheating (you gotta admit I improvise well). The table will feature curved legs and I would like to share that and some thoughts on design, not just technique.

I think, “Welcome!” is also an accepted response, Rob.

Hi Todd,

I’m also new to Lumber Jocks as of this week—I think. As a software developer I will tell you that you may not be computer savvy but at least you’re trying and learning. That’s the important thing. In my world, it amazes me that many of the CEO’s, VP’s, and managers that are running companies and pulling down hundreds of thousands of dollars can’t even figure out how to turn on their computer; and worse, they don’t even try to learn.

I’ve looked at your projects and they are really nice. You do good work.

Being one of the Lumberjock junkies as well, I can say Welcome Todd. We enjoy having your feedback and comments along the way.

I am also interested in seeing your table as it develops. Good luck with that.

I’ve been coming to LJA since October, and when i went out-of-town yesterday, not only did I have to check my friends computer, I told him he had to look too.

Not only am I an addicted Lumberjock, I’m spreading my sickness to others. I’m the worst kind of Lumberjock. I put their link on my home page, I have the “Pulse” link in my browser so I can look directly at what the other addicts have had to say.

I want to show everyone my wood… (I’m really a very sick individual)

The worst part is… I don’t want to change.

Atta Boy Todd,
When I got my PC a couple of years ago I asked one of the clerks in the store if they had a good manual for beginners. He told me the best wat=y to learn was just peck away at it yourself, & the computer would show you the way. He said you can’t hurt it. That’s how I learned the computer. , but I still learn a little everyday.

oh those famous works: you can’t hurt it.. just push the buttons (says my son) and then the next day he says, “what the heck did you do??” And then the next week he says, “how many times do I have to tell you—don’t.. blah blah blah” :)

To answer your first question, Todd – No, there is no help ;) At least you will discover your writing talent here… as many others did

(group) Hi Todd.

I accept that I’m a LJ addict. There are no other sites on the web. My wife can tell me what came via e-mail. eat, sleep, shop, lumberjocks. (not neccessarily in that order)

I thoght it was Lumberjock-y? er?... nah, skip the suffix.

Very excited about the green project – we need more of those!

I crashed my first computer within 90 days. I simply moved a folder to another place and when I rebooted it told me that I didnt have an operationg system.

Then I verbally told it “Yes I do, I stuck it in that folder right there. You just watched me!”

Hi Todd and BB

I can tell you an interesting story.

The VP at the telecommunications company that I worked for never turned off his computer. My boss was trying to get him to provide more space for our organization.

So we went down into my basement and made a little video and I took it and installed it into his Autoexec on his computer.

So he came into work, turned on his computer and called the President on the phone as his machine was booting. And all of a sudden at high volume the music for “It’s a small world after all” came blaring out of his computer with lots of space constrained photos.

He came to my office to see me about 20 minutes later.

But, I welcome you to LumberJocks. Isn’t this fun. Almost as much fun as making sawdust.

Wait a minute… Is addicted a bad thing? I’m addicted to air, if I dont get it I’ll die. I must be addicted to sleep, cause i do it not only every night, but I take a nap every day.

you know you are addicted if it has a negative impact on the rest of your life…
so, if it is stopping you from getting out to the shop.. that might be a negative side effect
