This is just ripped from the "About Marc" section of my website. Ok, so Im lazy! :)
My name is Marc J. Spagnuolo. I’m a professional woodworker and a weekend podcasting tech enthusiast. Video podcasting is a great way for me to combine three of my passions: woodworking, technology, and education.
The Woodworking:
My company, Marc’s Wood Creations is based out of Phoenix, Arizona. I focus primarily on studio furniture, but I frequently get requests for standard cabinetry, commercial work, and refinishing. I started woodworking as a hobby and read every book and magazine I could. I also took numerous classes. The pinnacle of my training was my short-term apprenticeship why my good friend and mentor David J. Marks.
The Technology:
I am a recent Mac switcher and I create all of my podcasts using Mac software (FinalCut Express and GarageBand).
My camera is a Panasonic PV-GS300 and my microphones are a Shure SM-11 and a Shure SM-57.
The Education:
A large part of my business involves woodworking instruction. I teach classes out of my workshop as well as travel to other schools to teach on location.

I checked out your site, & I think you’re doing a great job. It should really help those that are starting out in woodworking. I think it will even help us old timers that have forgotten a lot of things, & also learn some new stuff. The PC is a great learning tool. Keep up the good work.

Marc, I’ve enjoyed veiwing your pod cast. I wish you would have used a board with a little more cupping and/or twist in your pod cast on the jointer. The board you used was something that most of us could do with a hand plane. It was very informative for someone who has never done it and that is good. Keep it coming!! Thanks.

Scott, if you have DIY, it looks like they’re doing a three-fer of Woodworks on Saturday! And two of them are on Arts and Crafts pieces… Man, I love TIVO.
But I hear David was considering making some more full-length DVDs. Marc, I would think you might have some interactions with David still on a more personal level? I thought he was going to do that since Woodworks was cancelled… is it still cancelled, and they’re just rerunning shows? Or did he get signed on for another season? What’s the scoop?

Hey Ethan. The unfortunate scoop is that David is pretty much done with TV. Woodworks has been out of production for years and last I heard, there was no possibility of new episodes. But as you can see, DIY is milking Woodworks for all its worth. The whole thing turned out to be a pretty raw deal for David. But then again, the fame and notoriety he received is what allowed him to make a career out of appearances and teaching. So I guess he is making lemon aid from lemons.
He is making DVD’s, but they are coming out slowly. He currently has two videos: one on chemical patination (from the 80’s) techniques and one on jigs and fixtures. You can buy them at www.djmarks.com
Hopefully he will be able to make more DVD’s soon.

Cool (about the three-fer on DIY) we don’t have it, but I think my in-laws do. I’ll need a break from the rest of the fall-clean up I need to finish before the snow comes (finally) on Sunday.

Yeah, I’d read he didn’t get the best end of the stick with that deal and he was planning on making more in-depth DVDs, instead. Chemical patination isn’t really my thing, but I might check out the DVD on jigs and fixtures.
Actually… maybe I’ll put in a request for our guild to buy a copy for their library.
Thanks for the info, though!

Sorry about that. I have been trying since last night to get my video uploaded to Blip.TV, which is the site that hosts them. Unfortunately, something keeps screwing up the upload. But since you are a nice guy, here is a link to another super secret location where you can see the next video. Dont tell anyone. :)

Enjoy your work. I’m from a woodworking deprived area, so there are few to learn from outside the small clubs. I resort to the magazines and forums. A video is worth a thousand words so I look forward to your future casts. Also, nice job on teaming up with Matt. Listened to the first episode on the drive home last night.

I found lumber jock through your site which was also a random stroke of luck. I love what you bring to this industry…videos and websites full of info like yours is exactly what’s helping bring this craft into the mainstream. Thank you for taking the time to share with all of us.

Hey Marc, I love your podcasts, they are so funny and I get alot out of them. I started watching them about october of last year, and I watched every sigle episode you have in about a week. All of the episodes you do teaches me about diffrent woods, tools, and pretty much anything else there is to know. I know that you had an apprenticeship with David Marks as well. I appriciate alot of his work. You both use alot of the same techniques in doing things. I can’t wait to see how that end table will turn out. By the way I think you shuld definetly use glass for the top. It will give it alot of class I think. Thanks.

Hey Marc—
I’m like a lot of others; it’s all your fault I’m here. I really look forward to the podcast; it’s like a healthy combination of Norm (whirring routahs… everything always fits together first time…) and St. Roy (we get to hear the clatter of an 1860’s Sheffield tenon saw hitting the bricks…) Can you tell me why my wife relates to Nicole so much?
Seriously, I truly appreciate it when you explain to us the elements of your design and how you arrived at the design decisions you made. Keep up the energy!!
