Commercial pilot retired from Cessna Aircraft co. With time now, I play golf (6 handicap) do casual woodworking Now 73, in good health, workout 2 - 3 times a week, try and keep the birthday fairy at arms length as long as possible.
Completed a one week course in "Joinery" at the Marc Adams school near Indianapolis in 2007. We used hand tools all week, and worked 12 hour days "getting it right" in dovetails and mortise and tenons. WHEW! ! ! Great refresher!
My 2 car garage is somewhat wider and deeper than most, is insulated, and I have a Delta 6" jointer, Craftsman drill press, Craftsman 15" band-saw, Delta thickness planer, Rockler router table with Porter-Cable plunge router, and my trusty 25 year old Delta 10" table saw. All are wheel-mounted and live along the walls until needed. Had heavy duty electrics and lights installed. There are a number of shelves with many smaller tools and electric devices one accumulates in 50 years. Put in a overhead gas heater Nov 07. I heat up to about 55 - 60 to work (it will go much higher) and it stays above 45 overnight on coldest days. No need to take in glue and paints!
Will never be a showpiece builder, nor do I want to. Will do end tables, chest of drawers, small side tables, small dining room table, bed, etc.
Completed Chris Schwarz Holtsappfel workbench project in Oct '07 after inspiration from Gravedigger's twelve lessons. Next up is end tables and bedside tables for son in Moscow, Idaho.
