great combination squares - at a great price

great combination squares - at a great price

51 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 16 comments »

these combination squares from Empire are great. they have found a specialy place in my shop also. they are very inexpensive at around 15$ for the 12” square and 7% for the 6” square. they have a lifetime warranty and are guaranteed flat and square to .oo1”. it may not be a Starret or anything but it is a great square for the price. i like the big 12” one but since i got the smaller 6” one i have found myself reaching for that one more often. it feels very nice i...

Awesome! a solid performer after 20 years!

Awesome! a solid performer after 20 years!

I know, I know, Its not a true D4R that i have but its the exact same thing except for some improvements in the new D4R which i will mention. like i said the D4R is a solid performer. it takes a while to set up but once you are set up you can consistently and accurately cut as many dovetails as you want. and once you get some experience under your belt set up is a breeze. i love the adjustability so you can have almost any configuration you want and its great to have the whole 24” so yo...

another great DVD

Another great DVD. this sugar chest DVD is jam packed with so much woodworking knowledge on the sugar chest that Charles Neil is passing on to us. It is a 4 DVD set and goes through every little detail. the good the bad and the ugly. it goes through everything from lumber selection, to milling, construction, and the finished product. As i stated earlier this DVD does really show the good, bad, and ugly. as Charles always says he’s going to show everything and even on a couple of small m...

Once You Try Them - You Can't Live Without Them

Once You Try Them - You Can't Live Without Them

i just got my new worktunes headphones and i have got to say that i love them. they are wonderful to use. the ones that i got have just an am/fm radio but you can also get ones to hook up to your ipod. the radio ones cost 50 and i think the ipod ones are around 80 or 90. they are very heavy duty and seem like they will last a lot longer than the other pairs that i have got before. they are nice to have when using the table saw and the miter saw but where they really shines is while ripping a ...

Like we've come to expect, an A+ DVD!

Like we've come to expect, an A+ DVD!

as the title states this is an A+ DVD. as we’ve some to expect it is very thorough also. one thing that the DVD talks about is lumber selection. about knots, working with them, the boards themselves, the grain and everything in between then preparing the lumber, and don’t get worried that it will all be big tools. Charles uses only a tablesaw and planner for most of the milling process. he also uses a drum sander but that can be substituted for a planer. then with all the...

Charles Neil’s Finishing A – Z Beyond the Books is a DVD set that EVERY woodworker should have. it is packed with i think about 15 hours of finishing on 10 DVD’s and it is so thorough. the two whole DVDs are just on preparing for the finish and sanding and i thought that there wasn’t much to know about sanding and preparing to finish but after Charles goes through it i just thought wow. even on preparing for a finish i learned a lot. then there are three DVDs on ...

Good idea but too flimsy

Good idea but too flimsy

Well i needed an edge guild and i didn’t want to order away for one so i got this milescraft edge guide. it is a good concept. it comes with a “swiss cheese” base that can be used on almost all routers which it able to be put into the edge guide and then you twist the router in the edge guide and it locks the router in. also they have a turnlock bushing that they include which is the same concept of the base. just insert it and twist to lock it down. as i said it is a good c...

Great Workshop Helper - Horrible Directions

well i just got my second workmate so i figured that i could do a review on this one because it is the newer version (my old one was the one my dad had for about 10-15 years. it is a great little shop helper. it works at a vise, a workbench, and if you put a piece of plywood on it when it is fully extended than i little assembly table. there are many many little uses that you will find for this around the shop. they last a long time as my dad’s did also.the only reason why his broke was...

Best Dovetail Saw I've Ever Used

Best Dovetail Saw I've Ever Used

152 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 5 comments »

just to clear this up i haven’t used many dovetail saws so i have nothing to compare this to but for 12$ at Home Depot this saw is just amazing. i can cut straight, at an angle, or any other way i want to cut and the saw stays on track. the back pull seems so much easier and i love how it can also be used as a flush cut saw. also the blade is replaceable so i don’t have to buy a whole new one when it gets dull ( but for 12$ i would buy a new one). for anyone looking for a dovetail...

Best Nailer you'll find in this price range

I love this brad nailer. i got it a Lowe’s for about 80 dollars and it hasn’t failed me since. it has never jammed and the performance has been great. i decided on this brad nailer because it had a 7 year warranty and it was the only one under 100 dollars to accept brads up to 2”. i like how its oil free too. this is my first brad nailer so i don’t know how much of a good thing that is but my dad (who has had nailers you need to oil) says that its good. now more on ...
