So now for the top detail. I didn’t really Expect to have it done by now but everything is going according to plan so i will start with the layout of the top detail.
here is the picture of it laid out in pencil. I realized that is was hard to see so i outlined it in sharpie in order of the steps that I took

so the next ones are in order of how i drew them. I just simply used a compass and made all the lines to flow together.

now in this last one i laid out the different steps in the molding in pencil so its a little hard to see but it is the lines inside the molding.

Next is to cut it out. I used my dad’s dewalt roto-zip with a new upcut bit to cut everything out. I did it in a few passes and here is the molding after the different passes are completes.

\

now i used the roto zip to give me a good outline of the lowest detail. the little ball on the top has very little support though and i was weary about doing it so i took very, very thin passes to get everything out and then hogged out the rest of the material with a router

Then I did the next step of the molding. there were supposed to be 3 steps but i slipped and now there are only two. i only had about 3/8” to balance the router on and the blocks i taped on for support weren’t holding well so there was no way i was going to have 3 steps.

now here it is with some very fine chisel work with a sharp chisel and some sanding

so thats all i have today. next is the finish. the person i am sending this to taught me a lot about finishing so I’m going to do some things that he taught me to finish this. So probably by Tuesday i will have the finish on this beautiful piece of mahogany all wrapped up and posted.

Nice design and a perfect wood to work with. Does the rotzip have an adaptor for a baseplate with a guide bushing adaptor? If you create a pattern with 1/4 mdf you will be able to not only route it out clean and safely, but you will be able to duplicate a good design like yours over and over.
