I am a Scottish Texan who butchers wood as a therapy for life's little teases! I am just developing a workshop - 1/2 of a 2 car garage.
I built John Whites 'New fangled Workbench' about a year ago but there are a number of 'bits' that need finishing up or improving. Its a great workbench though. I 'upsized' it somewhat to cope with bigger contruction projects but if I were doing it again I would stick closer to John's advices. I am modifying it somewhat to use the 'tool well' to run a trapped dolly in and that will be my sliding table for my 10" Hitachi contractor's tablesaw and big sheet cuts. I am currently modifying a universal tablesaw jig I have seen to bridge the nearly 3/8" gap that my direct drive saw has that makes creating a zero clearance insert for it impossible.
Recent projects - a screen porch conversion of a carport - we got a friend of mine a lot of cool living space for not a lot of $$$ and a set of redwood open plan stairs from the 2nd floor verandah to the back garden as an access to another friend's painting studio.
I am amazed at the work I see posted here on LJ and hope to catch up in the next decade or two.
