Hello, this is my shop. It is 20×40 with an 8ft ceiling. I have been woodworking for almost 18 years and enjoy building just about anything. I am pretty well set up but still have a few thing on the wish list, such as a wide drum sander and a better belt/disc sander. I am getting ready to build “the wood wisperers” assembly table to replace my old one and also hope to come up with a better miter saw stand design. I also like to do welding/ metal fabrication and auto repair. That’s why the front of the shop is open. My lumber is stored in a barn behind the shop along with my mobile miter saw and mobile tablesaw. Not shown in the pics are my dust collector and air compressor which are in a closet behind the shop. If any one has any suggestion let me know. I am always looking for ways to improve it.

Fantastic shop!

You are blessed indeed to have so much space, so many nice machines, and the ability to be able to use all of it to create quality work.

Stan, Great shop and I join others in drooling. I live in Seneca. Are you a member of the Greenville or Piedmont clubs?

Steve, I am not a member of either. I am familiar with the greenville club but not the piedmont. Do they have a web site?

Hello Stanley,
Nice layout. I had a question about your dust collection system. I see you have a perimeter setup…but I didn’t see where your collector was…do you have a cyclone or do you have a bag dust collector system? Aren’t the 90’s killing you for power in you collection lines? Thanks, Todd

Todd, I have a 4’x8’ closet attached to the back left corner of the shop(small green door) that has the dust collector in it. It is a Grizzly 2hp G1028/1029 that I added oversized Onieda bags to. The 90’s or the long runs have not affected the suction. My 12 1/2’’ planer is at the end of the line(approx.45’) and it works great. I get a small amount of chips that blow out during use but, it is very minimal. I have never understood why most magazine always show these size of dust collector as only good for portable use. I have great service out of this type of collector and would not hesitate to replace the exsisting system with something similar.

Hi Stan,

You have a very nice shop with plenty of space to work in and a nice set of tools to play with. I really like the finished ceiling as it helps to brighten up the working space. I see a definite influence from the NYW in some of your tool cabinetry. :)

Thanks for the shop tour. I really enjoyed it.

What a nice way to conclude a little shop surfing. I really like checking out other shops, and yours is right up there with the best. Today is May 21, 2008 and by next week the second publication of BH&G Wood magazine’s America’s Best Home Workshops will be out and I think your shop could be in it. Thanks for the tour. Oh yes, I’m a firm believer that you can’t have enough clamps.
