I am 48 and was handed a small construct business when I was 23. I was working with my buddy for a month building Decks and he decided to move. So I learned how to build decks fast , from there I moved into Kitchens and baths. Both my uncles were contractors so the transition to other aspects of the business were not to hard to do. After 10 years and the Black Monday stock crash work dried up. I decided to move on and to into computers. I now work for IBM and have 6 years to go before retirement at 55.

I am not sure how to use this “space” yet :) hmm how do I reply, or send a message to a users (no worries, I’ll figure it out, maybe even read help <grin>) . I guess I just post a message to this thread?

Guy – you mentioned “Bill Polleys mill”, I posted some questions on another board about Saw Mill eduquitee to see if I could pick up any tips on what to look for when I go to a saw mill. I have never been to one, but sure plan on getting there as soon as work slows down for me . Any information you can give me on Bill Polleys mill woudl be helpful.

Snowdog. I’ve found that the best way to a sawmill owners heart is to be friendly with him and to give him something that you made.

I’ve given handmade pens from local wood that has a great figure, like crotch wood or tiger strip. Then you find some of his stash that he has sitting off in some corner of the mill

Good luck in your seeking for supplies. I also don’t go looking for one board. I might buy the whole tree (already cut of course) to get wood that matches in color and texture.

Snowdog I just looked thru your shop photos, I am the one who is envious, what a shop! Do you have drum sander? I do alot of curved laminations with figured wood, and my little planer would almost do more damage than good. So the drum sander was the one tool that has really made my odd projects easier. Anyhow I think we have a mutual admiration thing going on. Keep me updated!

In case you missed this on my thread.

Peugot is the name of the pepper mill. They call it the Rolls Royce of mills.

Ours has worked real good for many years. It does a nice fine grind.

I’m not sure were I bought it. Maybe Cherry tree toys.
