Sarah-Marie,
Now that you are here, post often, post everything, post anything. We LJ’s are addicted to this media of woodworking. Like fuel to a fire. Also do you have a link to your life’s work? WE would love to see more of this fine work you posted.

Hi,
You guys are a pretty infectious welcoming committee. Thanks for the comments. I will get pictures of other work up in a day or so. Yes, the aspen was a surprise. I was told that particular stock would not be attractive and I would want to “paint it”. P-A-I-N-T is not in my vocabulary, so it is lucky that I have a magic thickness planer.
Thanks to all for the enthusiasm.
It is late my time so I must sign off.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
Sounds like your are a busy girl. I was a volunteer fireman myself for five years when I lived in CA. Looking forward to seeing your postings.
God Bless

Sarah Marie:
Welcome to Lj’s.
I spent a couple of weeks at Stadacona Naval base as a youth and just loved the area you are living in.
I’m comming back for a visit someday.
You will find a wealth of information here at Lj’s and if you can’t find it just holler.

Bob#2,
Thanks for the welcome. As you can see (read) I have made LJ my home. (Already LJ’s has saved me from wrestling with a twisted-sister plank of oak.)
I am down the eastern shore (north), but am often at the marina at Shearwater airforce base across the harbour from Stadcona.
Your shop building process is all too familiar: sketch-up scrabble, trees infringing on foundation plans but too lovely to cut, county by-laws, and of course, the ever present problem of frost heaves; and figuring out a foundation that would accommodate all the above criteria did indeed make me want to throw-up.
It has been two years and I have not finished the inside but feel like I now work in a palace. I’ll enjoy watching your processes and evolutions!
If you do come to visit, please let me know.
SM

I’m a little late offering you a welcome, i just saw the post about buying a jointer for mothers day and followed the link. Nice to have you aboard. I’m also from Canada (ontario) and in the fire service. I was a volunteer for 18 years and I’m now the full time training officer for the same dept. Good luck with all of your pursuits woodworking and otherwise.

Fellow Canuck,
Thanks! Since there are not a lot of Canadians on LJ their posts often catch my attention and I had been looking at your coffee table design. I like that style.
I completely relate to your profile statement, “firefighter by day and woodworker by night and sometimes just the opposite”. I hope you know how much us newbies appreciate your years of experience. I have not been to many structure fires but we do a lot of wild-land, boat and ice rescue. 70% of our calls are medical and usually arrive before the ambulance (rural area). It can be difficult to re-focus in the shop after a call, but without that contact with the community I’d end up a Shop-Hermit!
Take care and thanks for the welcome.
