cool T's #1: in memoriam

no previous part Part 1 of cool T's series Part 2: sneak peek at the next one »

A recent string of chatter had me post an obit spoof as a potential t-shirt idea. Chip, Greg and Dr Sawdust (put in for about 3 dozen orders) and suggested I post this as a bonafide blog to gauge a wider audience… Oh, Obi and Karson like it too!

So fellow jocks, does anyone else out there need a little wardrobe enhancement for the new season? Shall I add something along the lines of the text that follows (with some nice appropriate art – I am a graphic designer afterall!) to my weekend to do list? Would it be worth my time for your smiles (and a couple bucks)?

Not to dissuade anyone from considering the cookies shirt I posted last fall – as of yet worn exclusively by me.

C’mon be the first on your block, in your city, heck, in your state to put some great wood art on your back!

Also, has anyone else have a chance to compare the Cafepress shirts with the Printfection ones? Mark gave printfection two thumbs up. Martin also says they are the way to go. Should I move my store there?

And now, for your consideration:

Joe Woodworker (or some such punny name), leaves behind his wife, 2 children, 5 routers, 3 HP Tablesaw, 8” jointer, 3/4 HP lathe with 16” swing…. Oh, and he still needs more clamps!

I’ve heard of this mysterious cookie shirt but never seen it until now. I like it, I like it.

Also, the chatter about the obit and everything is hilarious. Nice post , Chip. Put me down for obit shirt too. Scott. I have just recently learned from my sweetie that she finds it cute I am posting blogs on a woodworking site. I’m lucky. She supports me in my hobby, er, um, habit. Thus, I must further perpetuate my ‘cuteness’ with these shirts.

Wow, between these and a few LJs shirts, I’m clothed for a week!

Scott: There is a guy on the internet that is called Joe Woodworker . He sells Veneering equipment, veneers and how-to for building veneer presses.

I’d hate to get on his bad side when he may think we are referring to him. Another name might be better.

Yes, between Martin and I, we’ll have you clothed for a week, inside and outside the shop!

Thanks for that mention Karson… I’ll just have to use a name that doubles as a woodworking term. Woody, Chip or Jack Plane?

Well, we went from my terrible addiction with walnut to an obit shirt. Now I may be the dead guy. Man oh man.

Scott, make that a half dozen of large and x-large. My significant other thinks I’m crazy. She won’t be letting me get the new table saw I want if I go to crazy with this. Otherwise, I still think the idea is great. Do a mockup and let’s see it online here!

I think this is great – made Rick laugh. (I think it was the “clamps” that did it)

Yeah… I could add that to a few other ideas as a great inside joke.

The “clamps” at the end is the zinger… ya gotta leave the clamps at the end right?

Fer sure Chip… that’s the best part…. If only I could get permission to use brand names, the next funniest bit would be ” (nondescript) wife and kids… DeWalt this, Disston that, Stanley 4 1/2, Bailey Smoothing Plane, Oneway Lathe, Powermatic Cabinet Saw….

Greg, I was thinking a Plank stuck in the ground for a grave”stone”

“Ashes to ashes, Sawdust to dust”

but that might be better… gotta let that percolate a bit…

then each month something new to add to the “story”...
all you need is 12 jokes!

Ok, this is getting challenging… No matter how much of a woodworker I try to become… the graphics ideas keep flowing!...

I’ll ponder the calendar, but I know deep down, I’d only get 11 panels ;)

Hopefully I’ll have something people will like to wear (when their lumberjocks shirt is in the wash!)

they always seem to disapear until I clean out my wife’s junk drawer, my son’s room, the glove box of my wife’s car, under my wife’s sink….see the pattern here. I lover her, even went so far as to buy her her own set of tools…no luck, there is something about my screwdrivers that she can’t help but help herself.

My husband was a mechanic and had tons of sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers. Rick also had sets of the same. Now we are overflowing—and still can never find the one we need.

132 Screwdrivers!! I might have more than that, but like Debbie said you can’t find the one you need. Now they’re gathering dust, because of the power drivers.

I have about a dozen screwdrivers, only know where one is! (not counting the three I’m making of course) why does it seem that a trip down to the store is quicker (and easier) than rooting around the basement for a while?

and then, of course, is the one mult-screwdriver all-in-one that I keep in the kitchen and it ALWAYS goes back there… and can always be found! :D

Martins new T’s reminded me to update you on my “work in progress” – I have the Perfect piece of art in the works… now I just need to do another pass through the text and I’ll have a sample ready to show. (and with your enthusiastic thumbs-up) something to add to my “store”

Between Martin and myself (Oh – and Marc and Matt of LJ and podcast fame) we’ll keep you all stylin’ 8 days a week!
